Automotive Parts Painting Line for Engine & Exhaust: Extreme Environment Survival

Automotive Parts Painting Line for Engine & Exhaust: Extreme Environment Survival

Engine and exhaust components operate in conditions that destroy ordinary paint. Continuous temperatures of 300–600°C, thermal cycling from cold start to full load, and exposure to oil, fuel, and road salt make this the most demanding coating application in the automotive industry. Only purpose-formulated high-temperature coatings—applied on a properly engineered line—can survive.

Typical Parts We Paint

  • Exhaust pipes / downpipes
  • Mufflers / silencers
  • Turbocharger housings
  • Exhaust manifolds
  • Heat shields
  • Engine valve covers (decorative)

Recommended Process: High-Temperature Resistant Coating

Process Flow

  1. Degreasing: Alkaline wash to remove machining oils.
  2. Grit Blasting: SA 2.5 surface profile for maximum adhesion.
  3. Spray Application: Electrostatic or air-spray depending on part geometry.
  4. Curing: Staged ramp-up to final cure temperature (2–4 hrs depending on coating).
  5. Quality Check: Visual + adhesion tape test + thermal cycling test.

Key Buyer Concerns — Answered

1. Temperature Rating Verification

We provide third-party test certificates for every coating we specify. Our in-house thermal cycling test exposes coated samples to 50 cycles of -20°C → peak temperature → cool-down, measuring adhesion retention and color stability.

2. Adhesion After Thermal Cycling

High-temp coatings fail most often at the thermal cycling stage, not at steady heat. Our grit-blasting + primer system ensures adhesion survives 200+ thermal cycles without cracking or delamination.

3. Application Method

For high-volume production, we offer automated electrostatic spray lines with conveyorized ovens. For low-volume or oversized parts, our manual spray booths with precision IR ovens deliver the same quality at lower CAPEX.

Color Options

Standard colors include silver/aluminum, matte black, and cast-iron grey. Custom colors (e.g., red for performance exhausts) are available with minimum order quantities.
